the evolution of composite wood

AWood’s WPC composite wood goes beyond the limitations of natural wood, inspiring continuous innovation in the construction industry while reducing environmental impact.
Two breakthrough formulas — the result of 20 years of experience and the high-level expertise of the R&D department — combine two different types of recycled polymers with FSC®-certified softwood, all sourced from Italy and collected from industrial waste.

This has given rise to a new, advanced, and durable material capable of delivering high technical performance while actively contributing to the fight against global deforestation.

It is a lightweight yet robust material, with a refined and elegant tactile feel. The perfect balance between wood and polymer — the core of the product — ensures high resistance to moisture, mold, termites, and atmospheric agents, making it suitable for all climates and latitudes, even in marine environments.

Exposure to UV rays does not alter its color, maintaining long-term stability without the need for special treatments.

Due to its unique composition, AWood features different hues and tones, but they can be perfectly matched, allowing designers maximum freedom to customize.

THE PRODUCTION OF OUR WPC

AWood designs and manufactures both the raw material — WPC — and the finished profiles in-house through an extrusion process. This 100% on-site production cycle enables full project customization and transforms all waste materials into new raw material.

The key factors in the production of composite wood are essentially 3:

1_ RESEARCH, SELECTION AND PROCUREMENT OF RAW MATERIALS: the R&D department selects all the raw materials used during the production process such as polymers, wood fibers and in particular additives from Italian and European suppliers. This is a process in constant improvement and represents the first step that will lead to the manufacturing of products that will be installed all over the world and in any kind of climatic condition.
2_ FULL CONTROL OF THE FORMULATION: as specialized manufacturers of this material, we create internally our own formulas, which we know the limits and potential of. This allows us to provide multi-year warranties on all our systems, to guarantee safety and durability of the finished product.
3_ EXPERIENCE AND SPECIALIZATION IN EXTRUSION: we internally control all extrusion phases and parameters.

Once the selection of raw materials and the formula has been tested and approved, there are several factors that are involved in the actual production process:
• Compounding and measurement of the level of humidity of the material
• The homogeneous combination of all components and additives
• The temperature and melting dynamics of polymers
• Profile calibration and continuous control of physical, mechanical and aesthetic parameters
• Extrusion speed and output
• the final cut to length
